Volunteer Job Description

Substantive
Area Needs
All areas of immigration law except employment-based application, with an emphasis on family immigration, asylum, deportation defense, and domestic violence cases.
Skill Needs
  • Litigation
  • Document drafting
  • Legal research and writing
  • Country conditions (human rights) research
Training NSC attorneys conduct training in asylum law, VAWA, and general immigration law topics for attorneys, law students, and social services agencies
Referral
Process
Clients contact NSC's office directly or are referred by another agency. NSC provides intake and screens all cases. If a case is accepted, NSC will refer it to a volunteer attorney if an appropriate match is made.
Benefits NSC staff will serve as mentor in any case referred.
